Post-Publication Policies: Article Corrections, Retractions, and Expressions of Concern
Journal International Economic Sharia (JIES) is fully committed to maintaining the integrity and completeness of the scholarly record. We recognize our responsibility to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the content we publish. This policy outlines how JIES addresses post-publication issues and utilizes the Crossmark service to communicate these changes to readers.
Our policies are based on the guidelines from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Guiding Principles
JIES will take appropriate measures to correct the scholarly record if errors or misconduct are discovered. This may result in the publication of a Correction (Corrigendum or Erratum), an Expression of Concern, or a Retraction. The Crossmark service is implemented across all our published articles to alert readers to the current status of an article and any updates that may have occurred since its publication.
1. Article Retraction
A Retraction is a mechanism for correcting the literature and alerting readers to articles that contain seriously flawed or erroneous data, findings, or conclusions, such that their findings and conclusions cannot be relied upon. Retractions may also be issued in cases of redundant publication, plagiarism, or unethical research.
Grounds for Retraction include, but are not limited to:
- Clear evidence that the findings are unreliable, either as a result of major error (e.g., miscalculation or experimental error) or as a result of fabrication or falsification (i.e., research misconduct).
- Plagiarism, including self-plagiarism (redundant publication) where the article substantially duplicates previous work without proper citation or justification.
- Major reporting of unethical research, such as failure to obtain required ethics committee approval or protect patient confidentiality.
- Content published based on a compromised or manipulated peer review process.
Process: A retraction notice will be published, clearly identifying the retracted article and stating the reason(s) for the retraction. The retraction notice will be linked to the original article. The original article will be watermarked as "RETRACTED" on all its forms (HTML and PDF), but it will remain available on the journal's website to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.
2. Article Correction (Corrigendum and Erratum)
A correction may be issued to rectify significant errors or omissions that affect the interpretation of the work, but do not invalidate its overall findings.
- Corrigendum: Published when a significant error is discovered to be the fault of the author(s) (e.g., an error in data analysis or a missed affiliation). A Corrigendum notice, authored by the original authors, will be published.
- Erratum: Published when a significant error is discovered to be the fault of the publisher (e.g., a typesetting error or layout mistake introduced during production). An Erratum notice will be published.
All Correction notices will be linked to the original article, and the original article will be updated to note the publication of the correction.
3. Expression of Concern (EOC)
An Expression of Concern (EOC) may be issued by the editors if there is substantial, inconclusive evidence of misconduct or error. It is also used during an ongoing investigation if the editors believe it is necessary to alert readers. Once the investigation is complete, the EOC will be replaced by a full Retraction notice or a notice of exoneration.
4. The Role of CrossMark
JIES uses the Crossmark service to provide readers with a direct link to the most current and reliable version of an article.
By clicking the Crossmark logo on an article, a reader can immediately see the article's current status and view any associated post-publication updates (such as Corrections or Retractions). This commitment ensures that our readers are always accessing the most accurate version of the scholarly record.
