The SHMW workflow is designed for fairness, transparency, and efficiency, aligned with good practices and editorial ethics (e.g., COPE). Timelines below are indicative and may vary by manuscript complexity.

Submit Manuscript Author Guidelines Publication Ethics

1. Manuscript Submission
  • Submissions are made via the SHMW OJS portal; follow the Author Guidelines and required templates.
  • Prepare a blinded manuscript, a separate title page (authors/affiliations/ORCID), figures/tables, and any supplementary materials.
  • Corresponding author receives an automated acknowledgement with the manuscript ID.
2. Initial Editorial Screening
  • Scope fit, formatting completeness, ethical compliance, and originality screening (Turnitin/iThenticate) are checked as per SHMW Plagiarism Policy.
  • Desk rejection may occur for out-of-scope topics or critical deficiencies. Indicative timeline: 3–7 working days.
3. Double-Blind Peer Review
  • Two or more independent reviewers are selected for expertise and absence of conflicts; identities remain concealed.
  • Assessment covers originality, methodological rigor, clarity, ethics/data integrity, and relevance to occupational/clinical practice.
  • Indicative timeframe: 2–4 weeks per round (extensions considered when needed).
4. Editorial Decision
  • AcceptMinor RevisionMajor RevisionReject, with reasoned feedback.
  • Decisions weigh reviewer reports, ethical checks, and scientific contribution. Typical first decision: 2–4 weeks from start of review.
5. Revision & Resubmission
  • Authors submit a tracked-changes manuscript and a point-by-point response addressing each reviewer/editor comment.
  • Major revisions may undergo additional review. Indicative windows: minor 7–14 days; major 21–35 days.
6. Final Decision & Letter of Acceptance (LOA)
  • After satisfactory revisions, the editor issues the final decision.
  • For accepted manuscripts, SHMW provides an official Letter of Acceptance (LOA) for authors’ records.
7. Copyediting & Proofreading
  • Professional copyediting (clarity, grammar, APA 7th, consistency) and layout checks.
  • Authors review page proofs (final corrections only). Typical author proofing: 3–5 days.
8. Publication & Indexing
  • Online-first posting with DOI; metadata deposited to Crossref and relevant discovery services.
  • Articles appear in the quarterly issue (Jan/Apr/Jul/Oct). Indicative acceptance-to-online: 5–10 days.
  • All content is Open Access (CC BY-SA 4.0); archiving via preservation networks (e.g., PKP PN/LOCKSS) where available.
9. Post-Publication
  • Authors are encouraged to share the Version of Record (with DOI) via institutional repositories and scholarly networks.
  • Post-publication updates (corrections, expressions of concern, retractions) follow ethical guidelines and SHMW policies.
