Call for Reviewers & Reviewer Guidelines
International Peer Review Community (2026–2028)

Call Icon Call for International Reviewers (ISPE)

Innovations Science Physics Education (ISPE) invites qualified scholars and experienced practitioners to join our international reviewer community. Reviewers play a central role in ensuring the rigor, credibility, and global relevance of published research through a double-blind peer-review process.

We particularly welcome reviewers with expertise in: Physics Education Research (PER), science education, STEM integration, scientific argumentation, learning analytics, educational technology (AI/VR/simulations), and assessment/measurement (IRT/Rasch, SEM).

Affiliation Icon Preferred Affiliation Profile

  • University faculty members / researchers in physics education, science education, or STEM education
  • Researchers affiliated with recognized research groups/labs (PER, learning sciences, educational measurement)
  • Doctoral degree holders (Ph.D./Ed.D.) or final-stage doctoral candidates with publication track record
  • International and cross-institutional representation is strongly encouraged

Reviewer Icon Reviewer Guidelines

ISPE maintains high academic and ethical standards through a rigorous double-blind peer-review process. Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive, and timely evaluations that strengthen the quality and impact of manuscripts.

Role Icon Role of the Reviewer

Reviewers serve as subject-matter experts who evaluate manuscripts for scholarly contribution and methodological rigor. Reviews support editors in decision-making and help authors improve clarity, validity, and significance.

  • Scientific accuracy, originality, and contribution to science/physics education research
  • Methodological transparency and appropriateness of analysis
  • Alignment with ISPE’s focus and scope

Responsibilities Icon Reviewer Responsibilities

  • Confidentiality: Manuscripts and review materials are confidential and must not be shared or used for personal gain.
  • Constructive feedback: Provide clear, specific, and actionable suggestions grounded in scholarly standards.
  • Fairness & objectivity: Evaluate manuscripts based on academic merit without bias or inappropriate language.
  • Timeliness: Submit reviews within the assigned timeframe (typically 14–21 days) or notify the editor if an extension is needed.
  • Conflict of interest: Decline invitations when conflicts exist (collaboration, institutional ties, personal relationships).

Evaluation Icon Evaluation Criteria

  • Scope fit: Clear alignment with science/physics education and ISPE thematic clusters.
  • Originality & significance: Novel contribution to theory, methodology, or practice.
  • Research design: Appropriateness and clarity of methods (sampling, instruments, procedures).
  • Data & analysis: Robustness of analysis (e.g., IRT/Rasch, SEM, multilevel, learning analytics) and validity of interpretations.
  • Results & conclusions: Claims supported by evidence; limitations clearly stated.
  • Writing & referencing: Clarity, coherence, and up-to-date references formatted consistently.

Feedback Icon Providing Effective Reviews

  • Use professional and respectful language; focus on the work, not the author.
  • Separate major and minor issues; cite sections/paragraphs for precision.
  • Support critiques with suggestions, examples, or relevant literature.
  • Identify methodological risks (validity threats, bias, robustness) and propose improvements.

Example comment:
Instead of: "The discussion is weak."
Try: "The discussion in Section 4 would benefit from engaging with recent physics education research on conceptual change. Please consider adding contemporary PER studies and clarifying how your findings extend existing models."
