Zero-Tolerance for Plagiarism

Innovations in Science Physics Education (ISPE) enforces a strict policy against plagiarism, redundant publication, inappropriate text recycling (self-plagiarism), and unethical AI-assisted writing. Manuscripts must demonstrate genuine scholarly contribution and clear educational value in science/physics education.

Important: Any confirmed plagiarism or falsified authorship information will result in editorial action, up to rejection or retraction.

Definitions of Misconduct

Copying Verbatim Copying

Copying text, lesson materials, data, figures, or tables from other sources without quotation and proper citation.

Paraphrasing Substantial Paraphrasing

Rewriting ideas, teaching frameworks, or theoretical arguments from other works without attribution.

Self plagiarism Self-Plagiarism (Text Recycling)

Reusing substantial parts of one’s own published or submitted manuscripts without citation and clear justification.

AI Unethical AI Use

Using AI to generate substantial sections (e.g., literature review, results interpretation, lesson designs) without disclosure, without human verification, or in a way that misrepresents authorship and accountability.

Alignment with Publication Ethics Standards (COPE)

ISPE aligns with international publication ethics principles and encourages best practices on responsible use of AI tools. AI tools cannot be listed as authors and do not replace scholarly responsibility.

Detection & Prevention

  • Screening: Similarity and AI indicators may be assessed using detection software and editorial checks.
  • Evaluation: Editors evaluate similarity context (references, methods, standard instructional terms, quotations).
  • Request for clarification: Authors may be asked to revise, add citations, or provide transparency on AI usage.

Consequences & Retraction

  • Pre-publication: Confirmed plagiarism or deceptive AI use may result in immediate rejection.
  • Post-publication: Proven violations may lead to correction, expression of concern, or retraction.
  • Sanctions: Editorial restrictions and institutional notification may be applied for severe/repeated misconduct.

Author Responsibilities (ISPE)

  • Ensure originality and provide complete citations for academic sources and educational materials used.
  • Disclose AI tools used (name of tool + purpose + sections affected) in the submission statement.
  • Do not submit the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously.
  • For classroom/intervention studies, ensure ethical approval where required and protect participant privacy.
  • Use reference managers (Zotero/Mendeley) and follow the journal’s citation style consistently.
