Publication Process

Publication Process for Advances in Fisheries and Oceans (AFO)

  1. Manuscript Submission: Authors submit their manuscripts online through the journal’s submission system. Submissions should adhere to the journal’s formatting and author guidelines.

  2. Editorial Assessment: Upon submission, manuscripts undergo an initial editorial assessment to ensure they meet basic requirements and scope of the journal. Submissions that pass this assessment proceed to peer review.

  3. Peer Review: All manuscripts undergo rigorous double-blind peer review by experts in the field. Reviewers evaluate the scientific validity, originality, and significance of the research. Authors may suggest potential reviewers during submission.

  4. Editorial Decision: Based on reviewer feedback and recommendations, the Editor-in-Chief or Associate Editors make a decision on the manuscript:

    • Accept as is
    • Accept with minor revisions
    • Revise and resubmit
    • Reject
  5. Author Revision: If revisions are requested, authors are given an opportunity to revise their manuscript based on reviewer comments and editorial feedback. Revised manuscripts are evaluated by the editor to ensure all concerns have been addressed adequately.

  6. Final Decision: Once revisions are satisfactory, the manuscript undergoes final checks for formatting, language, and adherence to journal guidelines. Upon acceptance, authors receive a Letter of Acceptance (LOA).

  7. Proofreading and Publication: Accepted manuscripts are formatted for publication. Authors receive proofs for final review and corrections. Once proofs are approved, articles are published online on a rolling basis and assigned a DOI.

  8. Indexing and Archiving: Published articles are indexed in relevant databases and archives to enhance visibility and accessibility. AFO ensures long-term preservation of digital content.

  9. Promotion and Dissemination: Published articles are promoted through the journal’s website, social media, and academic networks to reach a wide audience of researchers, practitioners, and policymakers.

  10. Author Recognition: Authors receive a certificate of appreciation upon publication, recognizing their contribution to advancing knowledge in marine sciences and fisheries.
