Strict standards for originality, AI integrity, and ethical publishing in forensic accounting research.

Zero-Tolerance Policy

Advanced Forensic Accounting Innovation (ADFAN) maintains the highest standards of scholarly ethics and enforces a strict zero-tolerance policy on plagiarism, redundant publication, self-plagiarism, data fabrication, and AI-generated misconduct. All manuscripts are subject to rigorous screening to ensure originality, integrity, and compliance with international publishing standards. Given the forensic nature of the journal, any form of academic dishonesty is treated with particular severity.

AI & Plagiarism Detection

Definitions of Misconduct

Verbatim Copying

Using text, data, figures, tables, forensic analysis results, or investigative findings from other sources without proper attribution or quotation marks.

Substantial Paraphrasing

Rewriting ideas, fraud detection methodologies, or analytical frameworks from other works without proper citation, presenting them as one's own original forensic insight.

Self-Plagiarism

Reusing significant portions of one's own previously published work (text recycling) without acknowledgment. This includes republishing the same forensic case study or dataset analysis across multiple journals.

AI-Generated Misconduct

Using AI tools (ChatGPT, Copilot, etc.) to generate content, analysis, or conclusions without disclosure, oversight, or proper human authorship attribution.

Data Fabrication & Falsification

Inventing, manipulating, or altering forensic data, evidence, or analytical results. A particularly severe violation in forensic accounting research where evidentiary integrity is paramount.

Citation Manipulation

Excessive or coercive self-citation, citation stacking, or citing irrelevant sources to artificially inflate citation metrics or manipulate the peer review process.

Alignment with COPE AI Guidelines

ADFAN adheres strictly to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) position statements regarding Artificial Intelligence (AI) in authorship and scholarly publishing. AI tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot take responsibility for submitted work, verify data accuracy, or be accountable for ethical compliance.

Detection & Prevention

Turnitin & iThenticate Screening: Every manuscript is screened for textual similarity and AI-generated content.
Similarity Threshold: Similarity index above 15% (excluding references) triggers editorial review. Above 25% results in immediate rejection.
AI Writing Detection: High AI probability scores trigger verification. Undisclosed AI usage leads to revision request or rejection.
Manual Verification: Editors and reviewers manually verify forensic methodologies and data integrity.

Consequences & Retraction

Desk Review Stage: Confirmed plagiarism, fabrication, or undisclosed AI = immediate rejection.
During Peer Review: Misconduct detected = immediate withdrawal with evidence to author.
Post-Publication: Formal retraction following COPE Retraction Guidelines with public notice.
Institutional Notification: Author's institution, funder, and/or professional body (ACFE, AICPA) may be notified.
Sanctions: Temporary or permanent ban. Repeat offenders blacklisted across publisher's portfolio.

Author Responsibilities

Guarantee absolute originality and cite all sources accurately in APA 7th Edition format.
Transparently disclose any AI-assisted writing, analysis, or editing in the Ethics Statement (tool name, purpose, sections).
Avoid redundant publications (salami slicing) and duplicate submission to multiple journals.
Properly attribute all forensic methodologies, analytical frameworks, and datasets to original sources.
Maintain raw data and evidence documentation and provide if requested during review.
Use reference managers: Mendeley or Zotero.
Obtain permissions for third-party content (financial data, proprietary tools).

Report Suspected Misconduct

If you suspect plagiarism, data fabrication, or any ethical violation, contact the editorial office immediately. All reports are handled confidentially and investigated following COPE procedures.
